Keep 75% of every fare. Plus all your tips.

A flat 25% commission with nothing skimmed off the top first. Drive when you want, anywhere in California.

How pay works

One rate, published, applied the same way to every trip.

Flat 25% commission

CarryU takes 25% of the gross fare. You keep the other 75%. The percentage does not change by time of day, trip length or how long you have been driving.

No booking fee taken first

Some platforms subtract a per-ride service fee before splitting what's left. CarryU calculates commission on the full fare the rider paid, so what you see is what the split was based on.

Tips are yours

100% of tips go to you. No commission is taken on tips.

Weekly direct deposit

Earnings are deposited weekly, with a trip-by-trip breakdown showing the fare, the commission and your payout for every ride.

Earnings depend on how much you drive and rider demand. CarryU does not guarantee an hourly rate or a minimum income. Your take-home also depends on your own costs, including fuel, maintenance, insurance and taxes. You drive as an independent contractor.

What you need to drive in California

These are set by state rules for transportation network companies. Every one is checked before your account activates.

Age and licence

At least 21 years old, holding a valid California driver licence for a minimum of one year. Out-of-state licences must be transferred before you can be approved.

Driving record

A driving record review at application and every quarter after that. Certain violations, including a DUI in the past seven years, disqualify an applicant.

Criminal background check

A background check is run before your first trip, as required under California Public Utilities Code section 5445.2.

Your vehicle

Four doors, model year 2012 or newer, current California registration, and in safe operating condition with no cosmetic damage that affects safety.

19-point inspection

Completed at a Bureau of Automotive Repair licensed facility before your first trip, then renewed every 12 months or 50,000 miles, whichever comes first.

Personal auto insurance

A personal policy in your name, kept in force and re-verified monthly. CarryU carries the commercial coverage required by state law on top of it.

Driver training

Complete the CarryU training modules covering the zero-tolerance policy, accessibility obligations and distracted driving before you go online.

How your insurance works while you drive

California splits app-on time into three periods. Different coverage applies in each.

Period 1 — app on, waiting

From the moment you go online until you accept a trip. CarryU carries at least $50,000 per person and $100,000 per incident for injury, $30,000 for property damage, plus $200,000 in excess coverage.

Period 2 — heading to your rider

From accepting the trip until your passenger gets in. $1,000,000 in primary commercial coverage applies.

Period 3 — passenger on board

From pickup until your passenger gets out. $1,000,000 in primary commercial coverage, plus $1,000,000 in uninsured and underinsured motorist coverage.

Important: your personal auto policy will not cover you while you are logged into the app, and will not provide collision or comprehensive coverage for damage to your vehicle from the moment you log on until you log off. This disclosure is required under California Public Utilities Code section 5432. Read your own policy, and speak to your insurer if anything is unclear.

Follow the money, and the coverage

Watch what changes as a trip moves through the three insurance periods.

$50k / $100k / $30k

Injury cover of at least $50,000 per person and $100,000 per incident, plus $30,000 for property damage, and $200,000 in excess coverage on top. Your own policy is not covering you here.

Coverage figures reflect the minimums California requires of transportation network companies under Public Utilities Code section 5433.

Driver questions

How much do CarryU drivers keep from each fare?

Drivers keep 75% of the gross fare. CarryU takes a flat 25% commission and does not deduct a booking fee before calculating it. Tips are paid to the driver in full.

What vehicle do I need to drive for CarryU?

A four-door vehicle, model year 2012 or newer, in safe operating condition, registered in California with current registration, and able to pass a 19-point inspection at a Bureau of Automotive Repair licensed facility.

Do I need commercial insurance to drive for CarryU?

No. You need personal auto insurance in your own name. CarryU carries the commercial coverage required by California law across all three driving periods, which sits over your personal policy while you are logged into the app.

How long does CarryU driver approval take?

Most applications clear in three to five business days. The background check and driving record review usually complete within 48 hours; the vehicle inspection depends on your appointment at the inspection facility.

Can I drive for CarryU and Uber or Lyft at the same time?

Yes. There is no exclusivity requirement. You can be logged into more than one platform, though you should only be logged into one at a time while carrying a passenger so insurance coverage is unambiguous.
